FEDERATION OF BREWERIES AND DISTILLERIES

In today’s world, it’s no longer enough to sell great tasting beverages.
They must also tell your story, and express your culture.
And that’s what the “Road of Culture” federation of brewers and distillers is all about.

About

“Road of Culture” is a federation of breweries and distilleries aiming to set a new bar of quality for the beers and spirits industry. This unique federation connects historical-artisanal centres with the most modern state-of-the-art production facilities. The federation functions in two primary ways: as a network of cultural-touristic destinations, and as a collective entrepreneurial endeavour for bringing mainstream, craft and specialty beverages to HoReCa leaders and innovators.

Map of Lithuania

Offering a range of outstanding beers and historical spirits for the export markets, “Road of Culture” also presents HoReCa partners worldwide with a range of contract brewing and white label solutions. Employing time-tested recipes and masterful distilling and brewing experience, we develop excellent brews and spirits, and apply your branding to the bottles and cans.

About the federation

In today’s world, top-of-the-line retailers, hotels, and restaurants strive to develop their own unique products, so that their customers and guests can enjoy a truly exclusive experience. By teaming up with the “Road of Culture” union of manufacturers, these far-sighted HoReCa players can develop their own range of beers and spirits. What is truly special about this cooperation model is that, aside from distinctive beverage tastes, we are also well equipped to develop outstanding brand concepts and label designs.

Centres of Cultural Excellence

Butautai Manor

Butautai Manor

The road of culture stretches throughout the Lithuanian highland. It stars up north in Butautai Manor (ANNO 1750) where rich German-style brewing traditions go back to the eighteenth century. Nowadays, the manor functions as a microbrewery, and a popular beer tasting destination. The brewery produces a range of excellent craft beers (“Krafto alus”, “Imperial Law”, “No Play Beer” X, Y, Z).

Palėvenė Dominican Monastery

Palėvenė Dominican Monastery

The road then stretches down south to Palėvenė Dominican Monastery (ANNO 1676). For years, the monastery has been the darling of historians and architecture connoisseurs. The monetary is famous for its rich traditions of brewing and calvados distillation. Palėvenė monastery is also renowned for having hosted the largest Dominican library in Europe, with over 970 toms collected. For architecture historians, the most special attribute of this monastery is the fact that each monk cell has an individual fireplace. With substantial funding from the European Union, the monastery was fully renovated with an ambition to bring this charming location back to its days of glory. In 2018, production of alcoholic beverages was restored, and the first batch of bread wine was distilled.

Komarai Manor

Komarai Manor

Just around the corner, one reaches the third stop on the road of culture: the Komarai manor (ANNO 1654) and the adjunct spirit distillery. For at least three hundred years, this distillery was the leading spirit producer in the region. Production activities were discontinued only through the policies of one Joseph Stalin. Today, however, the distillery its regaining its long-lost leadership in the world of hard spirits. In 2018, the renovated facilities of the legendary distillery were used to produce the first batch of premium beer schnapps (Check out our Antidrinker brand).

Centres of Progress

APYNYS Microbrewery

APYNYS Microbrewery

The “Road of Culture” connects historical heritage with technological progress. What starts with historical manors and monasteries of the Lithuanian highland, ends in the city of Kaunas which is home to two leading innovators in the beers and spirits industry.

Microbrewery “Apynys” is famous for its unique brews. The brewery is run by great craft beer technologists whose expertise is highly sought after. The signature brews are “Green Monster IPA” and “Mango Milkshake APA”. The greatest testimony to the quality of these brews is the recognition from Garret Oliver, a leading craft beer expert from the US.

According to Mr. Oliver

“Green Monster IPA” is the brightest achievement of the Lithuanian craft beer scene.

Kauen Craft

Kauen Craft

Another hugely important location in the “Road of Culture” is the Kauen Craft factory. Providing the most technologically advanced production facilities in the region, the Kauen Craft brewery plays a very important role in “Road of Culture” federation. The technological capacities of the factory allow for the efficient and standardized production of the craft brews and historical spirits developed by artisans in Butautai Manor, Palėvenė Dominican Monastery, Komaras Manor Spirit Distillery, and “Apynys” Microbrewery. Kauen Craft factory can brew up to 20.000.000 litres annually.
